After the iPhone 5 preorders sold out in just under an hour, Apple spokesperson Nat Kerris told AllThingsD the following in regards to the massive amount of iPhone 5 preorders:
Pre-orders for iPhone 5 have been incredible. We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response.
This quote comes after Apple sold their entire preorder inventory in
the wee hours of this morning. Some sources have said that the iPhone 5
sold out over 40 percent quicker than iPhone 4S preorders did last year.
Keep in mind, the iPhone 4S sold out pretty quickly as well. In fact,
over 1 million were sold during the first days of preorders.
Unfortunately, Nat didn’t release any sales numbers alongside her
statement, so we may have to wait a bit for those numbers to surface.
Needless to say, they were likely much higher than last year’s iPhone 4S
launch.Just as a personal note, I went to preorder two phones this morning: one for myself and one for a family member. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed with how well Apple handled this year’s iPhone preorder session. I didn’t experience any crashing when preordering my iPhone 5, unlike last year when Apple’s site crashed multiple times during the first night of iPhone 4S preorders.
