Ecrypt and Hide Files on Your Windows Computer

|

While it might be called a personal computer, most of us must share our computers with our families and significant others. Our personal files are vulnerable to prying eyes, just waiting for someone to open them and learn our secrets.
File encryption is the best way to keep personal files off limits to others who use your computer. One quick way to encrypt files is iDoo File Encryption.
install
Download the free version of iDoo’s File Encryption and begin the installation. You will be asked to provide a password and your email address at the start of the installation process. You will need this password any time you use the software or encrypt a file.

When you start the software for the first time, you will be asked for your password. Enter it, then click OK.

The free version of the software is limiting—you can only control individual files. To add encryption to entire drives and folders, you must purchase the pro version of the software. To hide a single file, click Hide Data, then choose Hide file. Click the Add File button and choose a file you want to hide. Keep adding files until you are satisfied, then click the Hide Files button at the bottom of the screen.

You can also deny reading capability for your individual files in much the same way. Click Deny Read, then click Lock Files. Click Add files and choose the files you want to add, then click the Lock Files button at the bottom of the screen.

You can also prevent others from making changes to individual files by choosing Deny Read. Choose Protect Files, click Add Files to choose files you want to protect, then click Protect Files at the bottom of your screen.

Overall, iDoo File Encryption works pretty well, but the free version severely limits a true test of the product. It would make more sense to allow us to encrypt an entire folder rather than individual files. A single encrypted folder could be all that is needed to protect sensitive data.
